Police have a suspect in custody for the stray bullet shooting of a 5 years old Bronx boy, officials told Tuesday. NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce announced the grab on Twitter “Suspect in custody. Details to follow later today.”
United States Marshals in bulletproof vests raided a building down the block from the shooting scene on Washington Ave near E 167th St in Morrisania Tuesday morning. They brought out at least one man in handcuffs. A second man was also taken into custody. Earlier Tuesday, investigators released without charging a man who had been taken in for questioning the night before. The boy, identified by sources as Jaheen Hunter, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. He and his dad had just left his father’s apartment when they got caught between three feuding men on the sidewalk about 5 Pm Monday. The boy was celebrating his 5th birthday. One of the men pulled a gun and started shooting at two rivals, who ran off. The gunman fired off 5 shots. Little Jaheen was shot in the head, victim of a stray bullet. The stunned father bundled him into car and rushed him to nearby St Barnabas Hospital. The child was later transferred to NY Presbyterian Hospital Columbia. Cops recovered five bullet casings at scene.
