An Arizona mother was sentenced to 20 years in prison for leaving her young daughter in the desert to die and then later returning to bury her. Ashley Attson was sentenced Monday for the brutal September 2016 crime. In a statement Tuesday, the United States Attorney’s Office for Arizona said the 23 years old mother placed her 17 months old daughter in a stroller and pushed her into the desert on the Navajo Reservation in Apache County. She then left the terrified child alone for 4 days and 4 nights. “Over the next few days, she met friends for ice cream and posted pictures of herself on Facebook. When she returned, the child was dead” the statement says. Attson then placed girl’s body in a garbage bag and buried her in an animal hole. United States District Judge David C Campbell called the crime “intentional, cold-hearted (and) horrendous.” Prosecutors said little girl was born with methamphetamine in her body. She had been in the care of tribal social service before being returned to her mother just two months before her death.
