Before upgrading to a new version on any device is to backup the current version and files of your device beforehand. You can open iTunes on your Mac/PC to backup your Apple device which is due for an upgrade.
If you are updating directly from your Apple device, you should have around 2 GB of storage space on your device. If you dont have that much free space, Apple suggested to uninstall an application and install it once the update is finished.

You can choose to update your device from your Mac/PC or directly from your iPhone/iPad/iPod. To update, go to Settings -> General -> Software Update and update your phone to the new iOS 11.
Now, sit back and relax while your Apple device becomes one with iOS 11.
