The husband of a former Connecticut high school teacher stood by her side as she was arraigned on charges of sexually assaulting an 18 years old student in special education program. Laura Ramos turned herself into authorities and was charged with second-degree sexual assault after admitting to student affair in a video recorded statement to police. The 31 years old mother was put on administrative leave but resigned from her job as a special education teacher at Central High School amid her termination proceedings. “She is presumed innocent and we look forward to proceeding with this matter,” her lawyer, Edwin Gavin said. Ramos and her husband both left the courthouse together Tuesday morning.
Police were called to Bridgeport school at the beginning of June where Principal Eric Graf said to officers that a student reported Ramos had been engaging in an illicit relationship with one of his classmates. The student witness said to officers that Ramos often texted him, sometimes even sharing some of her personal problems. At one point, she complained “her guy” no longer wanted to have sex with her. Based on classroom interactions, the witness told he was able to figure out which student Ramos had been with. He told he often saw them “making eyes at each other, like flirting.” Ramos initially denied the relationship, but later confessed to having sex with student “a handful of times” between December 2016 and April 2017. Her plea hearing is scheduled for July 25.
