The long arm of law did not have to reach that far. An officer was sitting in his patrol car at approximately 5 Am last week outside the Fort Pierce Police Department’s main station when a Florida man apparently decided to make his job much easier for him. “While in my vehicle, I heard the rear passenger side door handle make noise and then the front passenger side door handle make noise, where I was positioned seated in the driver seat of my clearly marked Fort Pierce Police Department Patrol vehicle” Officer Robie Troutman said. Troutman responded to would-be intruder by opening his door, prompting Aaron Orlando Rodriguez III 20 years old to flee and hide behind another vehicle. “Rodriguez said he saw my vehicle was running so he attempted to steal the vehicle so he had a ride home” Troutman added. The officer and a colleague promptly apprehended Okeechobee, Fla, resident. He faces charges of attempted grand theft of a car, loitering and prowling and possession of drug equipment after the officers allegedly discovered a pipe containing marijuana residue.
